Yemaya by Sandra Stanton

Yemaya is an African Goddess and is the Goddess of the Ocean, the womb of creation. She is the Mother of all and is considered this as she is the ruler of all water and all life is thought to have began in the sea, therefore began with Yemaya. She governs the Moon, all female cycles and childbirth. Ruling over the surface of the sea where life is concentrated, Orisha Olokin rules the depths, the unconscious and together they form balance.

She is motherly, protective of her children and caring. Comforting you just like a mother and is always there for you whenever you need her. So very loving and nurturing she will help you let go and cleanse you of anything that troubles you. Letting the healing waters engulf you, cleansing and clearing you, healing you. Letting emotions run free, releasing blocks.

Yemaya Meditation

Find a quiet place, light a candle and maybe put on some incense/oil diffuser. Sit, close your eyes and relax. Take three deep breaths. Set your intention to meet and connect with Yemaya. Say in your mind ‘My intention is to connect with Yemaya.’ Say this three times.

Imagine you are on an Island, surrounded by the Ocean. The sky is clear and blue, the sun shining and there is a wonderful cool sea breeze. Sitting on the beach, by the water you relax and enjoy the view and the way the Ocean makes you feel. You play in the water, you watch the small creatures and are amazed at how much life there really is in the Sea.

After some time, you notice there is a little boat just down from you. You decide that you would like to take a little trip in it out to Sea. Getting in the boat, you let the current take you out. Bobbing along, you go quite a distance and the Ocean surrounds you. You are not scared but feel at ease and peaceful.

Suddenly you feel the energy change. It feels so wonderful, loving and comforting. Looking around, you see a great big woman hovering over the Sea. It is Yemaya. She looks at you and smiles. ‘I am Yemaya, Mother of all. I am so glad you have connected with me. Come child, let me show you who I am.’ She takes you in her big hands and carries you into the Sea.

Where does she take you? Take this time to connect with her, ask your questions, listen to her and observe what she shows you.

After a little while and once you have finished connecting, thank Yemaya for her insights and gifts she has shown you.

When you are ready and you say your goodbyes, take three deep breaths and come back to the room.

Write down your experience. Where did Yemaya take you? What did you talk about? Did she have a message for you or a gift? What other things did you notice in your mediation?
